Until recently, CDs were copied by making an exact copy of the original CD, and actually pressing the blank CD media against the CD mold that was made from the original. This method has a good advantage but bad advantages as well. The good advantage is that the CD is very durable, but one has to prepare the job to be done well in advance and could only duplicate in large quantities at a time.

The other method is a process of actually "burning" the information onto a blank disk by laser. This method makes CD-R's, which looks and functions like a CD, but is not as durable as the pressed CD. The benefit of having your CD's burned is two-fold.

1. Turnaround time is much quicker.

2. You can have one copy made, or a thousand copies made.
